Riding on the significant achievements since 1985 by the dedicated clinicians, teachers and researchers who have served the Division of Otorhinolaryngology within the Department of Surgery, the independent Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery was formally established in August 2007. This further strengthens the University's leading position as a provider of medical and surgical treatment of the ear, nose, throat (ENT) and head and neck surgery, as well as clinical aspects of communicative disorders and training and research opportunities relevant to all these concerns. The Department provides comprehensive ENT, head and neck, audiology and speech therapy service to the local population in Hong Kong, trains both under- and post- graduates, and leads pioneering research in Ear, Nose & Throat diseases and communication sciences.

Eight academic divisions are established as self standing disciplines, with respect to an integrated and rigorous approach to service, training and research. The eight divisions are: Division of Otology & Neurotology, Division of Rhinology, Division of Laryngology, Division of Head & Neck Surgery, Division of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology, Division of Facial Plastic Surgery, Division of Audiology, and Division of Speech Therapy.
