MBChB graduates are required to undergo internship training for 12 months. During this period, they will be given a provisional medical licence by the Hong Kong Medical Council.

Internship training is jointly supervised by the Faculty and the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong. Internships are divided into four three-month rotations, with six months generally spent in medicine and six months in surgery. The Hong Kong Medical Council also accepts some rotations in paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and orthopaedics. During their internship, graduates learn to be doctors under supervision. They are also required to fill in a prescribed logbook of their experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of their 12-month internship, MBChB graduates can expect to be granted a full licence to practice medicine in Hong Kong by the Hong Kong Medical Council.
