Abstract
The eye is one of ideal experimental systems for investigating fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms and for evaluating high-risk therapeutic interventions including gene therapy, stem cell transplantation and chromosomal DNA editing. This talk will provide an overview of some of the key pathophysiologic mechanisms of retinal degenerations from mouse forward genetic studies. Retinal angiogenesis and homeostasis will be emphasized. We will then provide survey of the studies of retinal pigment epithelium and related therapies.
