CUHK’s Dr Jeremy Teoh awarded the John K. Lattimer Lectureship Becomes the first Asia-based researcher to receive the global honour in urology

Jeremy Teoh

Dr Jeremy Teoh, Assistant Dean (External Affairs) and Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at CU Medicine, becomes the first Asia-based researcher awarded the prestigious John K. Lattimer Lectureship by the American Urological Association at AUA 2026.

Dr Jeremy Teoh Yuen-chun, Assistant Dean (External Affairs) and Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Faculty of Medicine (CU Medicine), has been awarded the prestigious John K. Lattimer Lectureship by the American Urological Association (AUA). Dr Teoh is the first Asian-based researcher to receive this international accolade since its inception in 1977.

The American Urological Association (AUA) is one of the world’s largest urological associations, representing over 23,000 urological healthcare professionals globally. For 50 years, the John K. Lattimer Lectureship has been given annually to a medical professional whose innovations and practices have the potential to revolutionise urology or the broader field of medicine

Pioneering innovations in bladder cancer treatment

AUA 2026

The John K. Lattimer Lectureship, founded 50 years ago, recognises medical professionals whose innovations and practices have the potential to revolutionise urology or the broader field of medicine.

Dr Teoh said: “I feel extremely honoured to receive this award and sincerely thank the AUA for the recognition. Over the past 10 years, my team and I have conducted numerous research work on transurethral en bloc resection of bladder tumours that have improved bladder cancer outcomes globally. Last year, I had the privilege to conduct the first-in-human trial on a transurethral robotic system in performing en bloc resection of bladder tumour. The results are extremely promising and I truly believe the transurethral robotic system has the potential to revolutionise how we manage bladder cancer patients in the future. I also hope my story can be an inspiration to the younger generation of researchers in Asia.”

A global leader in urological research

Dr Teoh is internationally renowned for his pioneering work in transurethral en bloc resection of bladder tumours. He is the only Asian panel member on the European Association of Urology (EAU) Guidelines on non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. In 2021, he received the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award (Hong Kong) and the SIU-Innovators Award. He was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the Medical University of Vienna in 2023 and received the World Chinese Urological Society Rising Star Award in 2024.
