Department of Chemical Pathology
The Department of Chemical Pathology trains doctors and scientists specialized in diagnosing and monitoring diseases based on the biochemical and molecular changes occurring in disease processes. Our diagnostic laboratory also collects nearly 5,500 samples daily from patients of the Prince of Wales Hospital for analysis and recommendations.
Known globally for discoveries that have transformed non-invasive prenatal diagnosis and led to several other clinical applications, our research programme currently focuses on molecular diagnostics, plasma nucleic acid biology, the genomic basis of diseases, allergic diseases, inborn metabolism errors and bioinformatics.
As a pioneer in the use of next-generation DNA sequencing as a molecular diagnostic tool, our laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art parallel DNA sequencers and bioinformatics facilities.
