Department of Paediatrics
Our mission is to discover novel scientific knowledge through robust clinical, translational and basic research, and apply this knowledge to deliver the best possible care to children. Having state-of-the-art training facilities means we can offer outstanding education and training opportunities to medical students and paediatricians, and help them learn new insights about disease management, ground-breaking research applications and children's advocacy principles. We recruit postgraduate students of all ethnicities to participate in our internationally recognised research themes under a wide array of clinical and basic science topics in paediatrics and child health.
Our departmental flagship research programmes are known globally for our cutting-edge research on neonatology, allergy and clinical immunology, pulmonology and sleep medicine, childhood cancers and stem cell research, and respiratory viruses and epithelial cell immunobiology. We also collaborate with a number of research institutes, centres and departments to establish the university-level, multi-faculty and interdisciplinary Hong Kong Hub of Paediatric Excellence (HK HOPE) to conduct cutting-edge laboratory studies and territory-wide big data analytics in the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital to advance paediatric and child health research.
