LEE Sharen, a GPS Year 6 student, won the 1st place of ISE (International Society of Electrocardiology) Young Investigator’s Award 2021 in the International Congress on Electrocardiology (ICE) with the topic “Territory Wide Study Comparing the Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia Risk in Paediatric/Young and Adult Brugada Syndrome”.

Sharen LEE, a GPS Year 6 student, won 1st place for the ISE (International Society of Electrocardiology) Young Investigator’s Award 2021 in the International Congress on Electrocardiology (ICE) with the topic “Territory Wide Study Comparing the Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia Risk in Paediatric/Young and Adult Brugada Syndrome”.

Sharen said, “It is my privilege to have the eye-opening opportunity of attending and presenting at different conferences. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has limited the execution of physical conferences and face-to-face interactions, there is an inadvertent advantage of removing geographical barriers, thus making international conferences more accessible to researchers all around the world.”

“The abstract for competition at the ICE 2021 is a part of my GPS project, which aims to examine the value of electrocardiographic indices in the risk stratification of Brugada Syndrome. Special thanks need to go to Dr. Gary TSE from the University of Surrey and Dr. Issac MOK from Princess Margaret Hospital for their support and guidance that drove the project forward. In the future, we hope to be able to develop a holistic predictive model with the combination of clinical, electrocardiographic, investigation and genetic findings to improve the management approach on patients with cardiac ion channelopathies.” Sharen continued.
