Abstract

Our Faculty of Medicine conducted the world’s first multi-specialty clinical trial using a “Single Port Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgical System”. The novel system allows for multiple procedures to be performed through a single-entry site, while enabling surgeons to reach deep spaces like the nasopharynx and the hypopharynx to carry out delicate procedures with precision.

Using a single- entry site for three instruments and a high-definition (HD) 3D camera operated through an incision or a natural orifice, surgeons can control instruments with a reach of up to 24 cm. Manipulating the robotic boom across 360 degrees, doctors can look at the operating field via the console, using High Definition 3D images sourced through an endoscope.
