A three-in-one Deep-Learning–Based pre-diagnosis module for eye diseases

post

Artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning (DL) algorithms developed for retinal photographs have shown highly accurate detection of major eye diseases and screening on retinal photographs. The team is the first to integrate assessments of image quality, field of view, and laterality of the eye into a single pre-diagnosis module. Moreover, the module provided highly reliable retinal photographs assessment which will facilitate the use of AI-based algorithms for further disease diagnosis in clinical settings. (Transl Vis Sci Technol. 2021 Sep 1;10(11):16. doi: 10.1167/tvst.10.11.16.)

Anyone interested in future collaboration in this field of research is welcome to contact our key investigator Dr Carol CHEUNG from the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, CUHK. Dr Cheung’s research focuses on using ocular imaging technology and artificial intelligence to study human circulation and nervous systems, and link with eye, brain and cardiovascular diseases, in particular, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, Alzheimer’s disease and stroke.
